Electric Cleaner

I just found the perfect small little gift for our other son to "give" George. Look at this thing:

It's an electric nose and ear cleaner - how funny is that? It looks like it's just a little elctric motor that spins around and come with two attachments: A cotton swab (for the ears) and a little plastic finger (for the nose)! After all, it gets to be a lot more work to keep up with hygiene when you get older, as George would know! It says (as a joke of course) that it's "guaranteed to improve your sense of smell and hearing" - well George could certainly use some help with that second one, with how long it takes him to do what I ask sometimes! Anyways, this is just the kind of small gift I was looking for to get from whichever boy doesn't get him the tool kit. It's a little less expensive, though, so I think I might pair it with the birthday blues kit - those two combined are about equal in price to the tool belt. Well, that takes care of the gifts from the kids, but I still haven't figured out what I'll be getting him. That's a little backwards if you ask me! I really should make them start actually buying people presents themselves one of these days, but boys will be boys, I suppose. Okay, that's all for now, but next time it's time to recommence the hunt for a gift to George from me!

Tool Belt

I think I finally found a gift on that website that would be good for one of the boys to get George (or at least, to say that one of the boys got George, since I know better than to expect either of them to actually pick something out and buy it for him). Anyways, here it is:

The call it the over the hill tool belt. Of course, I don’t know what else they’d call it, because that is exactly what it is. It’s made to look like a tool belt with various tools attached to it, except that instead of normal tools they’re an assortment of little old age gag gifts. And these gag gifts seem like my sons’ sense of humor – things like a “fart alarm” whistle and a fake Tylenol-like medicine called “Tyrd-N-Old”. I think George will appreciate and get a kick out of this gift, especially if it’s coming from one of the boys. So that takes care of shopping for one of them. Now, I wonder what I’m going to do for the other one. It should be something like this, pretty cheap and an assortment of little gifts. Maybe that birthday blues kit I posted about a while back. But maybe I’ll find something better. I’ll just have to keep my eyes open and be on the lookout for another gift from our other son. And, of course, I still need to figure out what I’m getting him for sure. Right now I just have a bunch of ideas floating around in my head – seems like it’s like that more and more these days, huh? Okay, well, that’s all I’ve got to talk about for now. Talk to you next time!

A couple more small gifts

I went on that site again, in search of some small gifts that could go along with the pen I posted about last time, and I think I found some. One of them’s a little questionable in taste, though - I mean, I don’t have a problem with it, and George wouldn’t, but, well, you’ll see. First, here’s one that’s a safe bet:
They call it the over the hill hearing aid and yes, I know, it’s just a funnel. But it’s not as dumb as, say, golf balls, because funnels aren’t really something you normally buy by themselves, and this gift went ahead and turned a strange object into a funny gift that actually makes sense. I think it’s quite clever. And I think I might get it for George, along with the pen and a couple other little things. The thing I’m hesitant about, though, is this:
Yes, you read that right, that's called the "pecker exerciser." As you can see, this isn’t something I could include if one of the boys was going to be giving George all the little gifts. It would pretty much have to be a gift from me, for obvious reasons - coming from me it would be funny, but coming from anyone else, it would be very strange! And I don’t think I could stand to give it to him in public, either - he might not be embarrassed by it, but I know I would be! I think this product is absolutely hilarious and is one of the best gag gifts I’ve found online so far, but I’m not sure how I could go about presenting it to him. Maybe I could give it to him as an additional gift in private after the party, but then it doesn’t even seem worth the effort. I don’t know, I guess I’ll just have to think over this one while I’m looking for more small gifts that the boys could get George!

Another dumb gift...

... And one that I’ve decided is not so dumb. But first, the dumb one:
Yeah, that’s exactly what it looks like: just a pair of golf balls. They say “over the hill” on them, but still. I think that’s even worse than the crying towel. And they’re ten dollars! I don’t know how much golf balls usually cost, but it’s probably not that much. How ridiculous. I wasn’t going to post anything at all this week because at first that’s all I found, but then I found something else that I thought might actually make a fun gift. Also, it’s been a while since I last posted, and I wanted to try and keep the blog as active as I can even though I don’t get much time to look for gifts very often. Well, here’s the other gift that I was looking at this week:

They call it the “Old Fart Pen.” I know it’s just a pen, but there’s something about the design that I really like. It’s sort of wacky looking, don’t you think? I think George would get a real kick out of this pen. I can’t really explain why, it just seems like the sort of gift that would appeal to him. But it’s kind of small - so maybe I’ll wrap it up and say it’s from one of the boys, because lord knows they’re not going to go out and get him anything. That’s teenagers for you, I guess. Or maybe I’ll include it with a bigger gift... I just don’t know! I guess I’ll keep searching and hope an idea for how to work this in occurs to me!

Dumb Gift

So, as I’ve been browsing around this site, I’ve noticed that some gifts are really clever and would make great gag gifts. And other gifts... are not, and would not. Today, I think I found a prime example of the second category.

It’s called the Over the Hill “Crying Towel.” And it’s just a towel. Oh, and with a picture of a rocking chair on it. The rocking chair design is a kind of clever idea, I guess. But what kind of gag gift is a towel? The product description basically says old people cry every night. Now, I’m a little confused about this product for a couple of reasons. First, I’ve never met anyone who used a towel to dry their tears. And second, even if I had, what’s that got to do with getting old? That’s just dumb. Nobody cries just because they’re getting old. I have to confess, I just really don’t understand why this is a gag gift on a site of gifts for aging people. It doesn’t make much sense to me. Oh well, maybe I’m missing something. I’ve often found that I’m not young enough to understand things like this - maybe this time I’m not old enough? Do any of you understand this gift?

Got the blues?

I don’t know where it came from, but I know there’s some saying about the birthday blues and aging people especially are associated with the blues, for some reason. Well, the reason’s kind of obvious. But I’m still not sure why it’s such a popular saying. Anyways, old people sometimes get the blues. Luckily, I know George isn’t feeling those blues yet, but the reason I bring it up is I found this fun gift called the Birthday Blues Kit:

All it really is is some dark sunglasses and a harmonica, but what more do you need to play the blues, right? It comes with a funny little card listing types of birthday blues too. I saw this and thought it was pretty cute. Those sunglasses remind me of some character in a movie that George really loves, but for the life of me I can’t remember what the movie’s called. But I think he’d get a kick out of them because he’d recognize them from that. And he’d play a little tune on the harmonica at the party and everybody would get a good laugh from that. I don’t know if I’ll really get this - there are probably going to be all kinds of other gifts I find that are better - but it’s a fun little thing so I thought I’d post it anyways. Oh well, the search continues!

Gift Set

Okay, so this blog is called “Gifts for George” and it’s supposed to be about all the gag gifts and things I find for George for his birthday... but looking back I haven’t posted a real gift idea in two months! I just got caught up in all those fun decorations and things. Oops! But now I’m going to get back on track. It’s back to gift ideas! Starting with this one I found today:
I thought I’d start back up with a bang - It’s an entire gift set! And it’s shaped like a coffin, how cute is that? And it comes with all kinds of gag gifts inside of it - like prune juice and “anti-aging spray” and “anti-aging soap!” I’ve always thought little sets like this were more fun to receive than individual gifts, because you open it up and laugh and then you get to open it up again and see all the things inside! I think George will feel the same way. It looks like so much fun, and I think everyone will get a good laugh out of it! It seems like a pretty good value for all the stuff that’s inside of it, too. I’m going to keep looking for other gag gifts, but I really like this one! Then again, it can never hurt to give him more than one gift!
